Student Support and Wellbeing Services Phone Line

9am to 12pm and 2pm to 5pm on Monday, Tuesday,ÌýÌýWednesdayÌýand Friday.

9am to 12pm and 2pm to 4pm on Thursday.

What can we help with?

    Options 1 and 2:Ìý

    Options 1 and 2 are run by Mental Health and Wellbeing Team and the Disability and Neurodiversity team, who can help with:

    • Make recommendations to and liaise with your department regarding reasonable adjustments for teaching and learning.
    • Provide advice and guidance for both you and your department, about the potential impact of your disability or mental health difficulty on your studies and how this can be accommodated.
    • Help you apply for exam adjustments.
    • Liaise with ÂÒÂ×Ðã Accommodation about specific requirements or difficulties arising from your condition or personal circumstances.
    • Assist you with applying for disability funding, such as Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSA).
    • Signpost you to other support services, including psychological and psychiatric services.
    • Discuss specialist one-to-one support to help you mitigate the impact of your condition on your studies.
    • Provide support and appropriate external referrals if you've been affected by domestic or sexual violence.
    • Provide information and advice if you're considering an interruption of study for health or wellbeing reasons.
    • Support your return to study following an interruption due to health or wellbeing reasons.
    • Assign you to specialist advisers, who can assist students with specific conditions such as Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASCs) and Specific Learning Differences (SpLDs).
    Option 3:

    Option 3 is the Student Counselling Team, who can advise on:

    • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
    • Psychodynamic.
    • Counselling Single Session Therapy (SST).
    • Psychiatric Consultations.

    • Confirmation of student status.
    • Schengen visa letters.
    • Updating student details.
    • Changes to your studies.
    • Confirmation of award.
    • Third-party verification of studiesÌýand qualifications.
    • DBS services.
    • Help with accessing Disability and Mental Health services.
    • Withdrawing and interrupting your studies.
    • Signing forms for official purposes.
    • Degree certificates.
    • Transcripts.

    ÂÒÂ×Ðã 24/7 Student Support Line

    In-the-moment support is available via the ÂÒÂ×Ðã 24/7 Student Support Line, in 35+ languages, including sign.

    You will be able to speak to an adviser who can help you through any issues you are facing, including but not limited to:

    • Feeling anxious or stressed;
    • Money worries;
    • Cultural differences;
    • Homesickness;
    • Addiction;
    • Relationship difficulties;
    • Bereavement;
    • Bullying, harassment and/or sexual harassment;
    • Anything you feel is impacting your mental health, wellbeing or time at ÂÒÂ×Ðã.

    The advisers reflect the diverse range of backgrounds needed from our students. You can curate your own experience by selecting to speak to a male/female adviser, a BAME adviser or an adviser with additional training in LGBTQ+ related issues.Ìý

    ÂÒÂ×Ðã 24/7 Student Support Line is a free, confidential wellbeing support service available 24-hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.Ìý

    What to expect when you call

    You will have three options - if you are looking to speak to someone in relation to:

    1. In-the-moment support, please pressÌý1.
    2. Legal or financial issues, please pressÌý2.
    3. Bullying, harassment and sexual misconduct, please pressÌý3.

    How ÂÒÂ×Ðã 24/7 Student Support Line can support you

    ÂÒÂ×Ðã 24/7ÌýStudent Support Line use a brief solution-focused therapy (BSFT) model. This is a short-term counselling approach which allows flexibility. It is evidence-based and has been shown to be effective and successful.

    BSFT is proven to lead to a positive outcome for a wide variety of presenting issues and will be able to help with:

    • Mild/moderate emotional distress, manifesting as stress, anxiety or low-level depression.
    • Assistance in the promotion of healthier self-care techniques to promote a healthier work-life balance and wellbeing.
    • Supporting students to deal with challenging life events.
    • Support around relationship/family issues.

    What ÂÒÂ×Ðã 24/7 Student Support Line does not provide

    ÂÒÂ×Ðã 24/7 Student Support Line does not provide support in a mental health crisis or emergency. They also can't provide in-person or long-term psychological support, which can instead be accessed through your GP. Student Psychological and Counselling Services can provide short-term counselling on campus, based on students' needs.

    ÂÒÂ×Ðã 24/7 Student Support Line cannot provide any information relating to your programme of study, such as exam dates. Please check the relevant information on your department's website.

    For reasonable adjustments or extenuating circumstances, you can speak to a Disability, Mental Health and Wellbeing Adviser by raising an enquiry via askÂÒÂ×Ðã.
