Identities and Culture in Europe since 1945

An interdisciplinary programme of six two-year fellowships that was directed by Professor Michael Worton and funded by the Mellon Foundation. This programme examined the following key themes:

  • Word and Image: the role played by visual and texual representations in the constructions of identity
  • Popular Culture and its role in identity formation
  • National, Regional and Individual Identities in a modern European context
  • Nationhood and Sovereignty
  • Stasis and Mobility
