For parents

My child been chosen for Reading Recovery. What does this mean?

Your child's teachers think thatÌýgetting a little extra help will make sure that your child doesn'tÌý start to fall behind with reading and writing.ÌýGetting that help to them nowÌý will make a big difference, especially if they have been worried or unhappy about reading and writing.

The Reading Recovery teacher has had special training. They will work with your child inÌýshort lessons, one to one, every day for about two terms. In that time you should see your child's reading and writing improve very quickly.ÌýThis willÌýalso help their confidence and their work in the classroom.

My child's school has a Reading Recovery teacher but my child is having different support

Reading Recovery is for the lowest attaining Year 1 and Year 2 children.ÌýNot all Year 1 and Year 2 children will need an intensive level of support. Your child's teacherÌýwill have assessed your child's needs and matched him/her to the level of support necessary to help.
If you are concerned with your child's level of progress in Key Stage 1, please speak to your child's class teacher who can talk to the Reading Recovery teacher.

My child's school does not have a Reading Recovery teacher

Not all schoolsÌýhave ÌýReading Recovery; however they will have other literacyÌýinterventions in place. Talk to the school about what help they can give your child. We would be happy to talk to your school to see if we can help.
