Tom Glynn

What is your role and what does it involve?Ìý

I’m an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Manager, working with key stakeholders across the institution to implement ÂÒÂ×Ðã’s EDI plans and projects. I am currently focusing on student-centred commitments in our institutional action plans, and liaise with fourÌýfaculties.Ìý

How long have you been at ÂÒÂ×Ðã and what was your previous role?Ìý

I’ve been at ÂÒÂ×Ðã for just over twoÌýyears, and I’m coming up to 10 overall in the HE sector. Prior to this, I was focusing on EDI data and charters at another London University.ÌýÌý

What working achievement or initiative are you most proud of?Ìý

At ÂÒÂ×Ðã, I’m proud of the work I put into the redesign and relaunch of the Athena Swan SharePoint, improving support and access to information for all departments.Ìý

Tell us about a project you are working on now which is top of your to-do listÌý

I am reviewing and looking to redesign one of our positive action schemes, Inclusive Advocacy, to ensure it can be delivered in a way that best supports our staff.Ìý

What is your favourite album, film and novel?Ìý

I’ve probably spent the most amount of time on this question! The album would either be Tango in the NightÌýby Fleetwood Mac, or StooshÌýby Skunk Anansie. I’m a big horror fan, so my favourite film would be either Scream or Rosemary’s Baby. I feel like my favourite novel changes a few times every year. I recently read the memoir Hola Papi: How to Come Out in a Walmart Parking Lot and Other Life LessonsÌýby John Paul Brammer and would recommend it!Ìý

What is your favourite joke (pre-watershed)?Ìý

Did you hear about the book on glue? You can’t put it down.Ìý

Who would be your dream dinner guests?Ìý

My favourite horror author Grady Hendrix, the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll Tina Turner, and Bowen Yang to keep us all laughing.Ìý

What advice would you give your younger self?Ìý

Listen to more people’s stories… and don’t touch the top of the hob, that burn on your finger will last a while.Ìý

What would it surprise people to know about you?Ìý

I’m a pretty open book, so it’s probably something not that exciting like I can’t ride a bike.Ìý

What is your favourite place?  Ìý

The view of the City from Alexandra PalaceÌýÌý
