Description

This module surveys key themes in philosophy of medicine. We examine foundational issues in method, such as the use of randomised control trials as a gold standard. We also explore core decisions in metaphysics, such as classification. Our approach develops largely from case studies drawn from contemporary medical practice that speak to fundamental themes in conceptual analysis. Examples include: questions of discovery (of diseases and treatments), causation, modelling, complexity, well-being, cure, and evidence-based medicine.
