MiADE at HealTAC 2023

MiADE at the Healthcare Text Analytics Conference in Manchester: automatic conversion of clinician’s free text into a structured format to improve research, patient safety, and patient care.

On 15 June 2023, the MiADE core team, James Brandreth, Jennifer Jiang and Anoop Shah, presented and demonstrated the NIHR-funded MiADE project at the Healthcare Text Analytics Conference (HealTAC) in Manchester.

MiADE is a natural language processing system designed to be integrated within an electronic health record, to make it easier for clinicians to enter structured information such as diagnosis codes at the point of care.

The demo session began with a brief introduction to the MiADE system and its integration at University College London Hospitals (ÂÒÂ×ÐãH), followed by a live demonstration and code tutorial of the algorithm to extract problems and medications from clinical text, filter out irrelevant information, and structure metadata (there is a ).

The team is currently planning a live implementation and evaluation study of MiADE integrated with the Epic electronic health record system at ÂÒÂ×ÐãH, and will be open-sourcing its packages and making them available for general use soon.
