Former European Commissioner for Research, Science, Innovation
Carlos Moedas served as European Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science from 2014-2019. As Commissioner, he designed the proposal for the Horizon Europe research and innovation framework, in which ÂÒÂ×Ðã is a participant. Prior to this, he served as coordinator of Portugal’s Social Democratic Party Economic Research Unit, before being elected to Parliament in 2011. He was quickly appointed as under-Secretary of State in the Portuguese government, and oversaw the implementation of key structural reforms. He wasÌýa trustee for the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, a Portuguese institution focused on the arts, charity, education, and science, and is a board member for the European think tank the Jacques Delors Institute. He was elected Mayor of Lisbon in 2021.
European Institute Activities
As at Visiting Professor at the ÂÒÂ×Ðã European Institute, Carlos will contribute to the Institute’s work by engaging in a range of public, advisory and student-facing activities. He will give talks and participate in closed policy roundtables on EU-related topics, including on research, science and innovation
