Professor Wilson collected the award at the International Zebrafish Society Conference in Kyoto, Japan. It honours the outstanding contribution in the field of genetics of the Nobel Prize winner Christiane Nüsslein-Volhard.

Professor Wilson said: "I am absolutely delighted and honoured to receive the Christiane Nüsslein-Volhard Award. The community of researchers working with zebrafish is really wonderful and I’ve had a great time working with, and among, such smart, supportive and friendly researchers both locally and across the world.”

Professor Wilson was among the earliest researchers to use zebrafish for studying the nervous system and his team have made many seminal insights into the development of the forebrain and eyes.
